Samuel Hitz is the Chief Technology Officer and Chief Product Officer of Anapaya – The SCION Company.

Sam has always been a doer. While working on his bachelor’s, Sam and a friend created the first SBB timetable application for Android, which SBB later purchased and used for many years as their official Android app. During his studies, he also spent more than a year working at Google, building the first prototype for Youtube Music. However, he turned down a job offer from Google to continue his studies at ETH.

ETH Zurich saw Sam a couple times: first when he completed his Master of Science (Specialization Track: Information Security) in 2014, and then – intrigued by the idea of fixing the Internet - as a PhD student in the Network Security Group. He didn’t stop at the idea but went into full execution mode, bringing SCION out of the lab and into the real world: he founded Anapaya together with ETH professors Adrian Perrig, David Basin, and Peter Müller in 2017.

Sam is the head behind every Anapaya product and as Chief Product Officer he is transforming the commercialization of SCION-based solutions to meet market needs and future-proof today’s companies against an AI-accelerated, quantum world.

He enjoys finding new and practical solutions for unsolved problems while putting emphasis on the engineering aspect of research, rather than just theoretical foundations.
